A Change of Direction

I was going to write this blog about the processes that make a business happy, highlighting how these processes ensures happy employees and happy clients. Giving you the reader an insight to how the concept of ‘happiness’ is applied in a business environment. But a late change in my blog is required by the dilemma that we as a company face. It struck the company last Wednesday when a member of our team wasn’t having the happiest of days. (A shock I know). It had started off when they had switched on the car radio in the morning and the song Bad Day by REM had come on and their day continued along the same lines until the office conversation about music and in particular songs that lift  your spirits brought a very lively company debate. The benefits of Cotton Eye Joe, against Elbows ‘one day like this’ were discussed and debated. 

 So I’ve been wrestling with this dilemma of what makes a song a happy one and choosing my top five. I’ve opened up the category to include songs that don’t have the word ‘happy’ in their title and a quick scan through my ipod to see which songs I play the most has given me the following top five. These are songs that give me a happy  feeling straight away, rather than a contemplative happiness which would mean a completely different list! Oh the dilemma.  

 So here it goes….. 

 5) ELO – Mr Blue Sky

I was at a party. There was some dance tunes being played by the DJ. Everyone was playing it very cool, standing around until the first notes of this song came on. Everyone got up  and danced.

Just a happy tune. Great guitar rift that just carries you along.
