THE opening of a community hub can be stressful, especially when the subject matter can have a heart-breaking effect for loved ones.
Happy Creative aided senior care specialists Home Instead for the opening of their centre at Lytham Primary Care Centre for people suffering and coping with memory loss and dementia.
The hub, entitled Take A Walk Down Memory Lane, is designed for carers and the elderly as a place of relaxation and help for people with the sometime debilitating condition.
The walk-in centre will be manned daily by staff from the Blackpool-based company which specialises in supporting the families of older people. Home Instead provides non-medical care of older people in their own homes, ensuring they remain free to stay at home where they are happy and comfortable.
The Home Instead hub has been designed in a way where people suffering from the early stages of memory loss and dementia can look back on fond memories of yesteryear. There is a nostalgia wall where brands of a bygone era are on show and advice for carers.
Sophie Hoyle, director of Home Instead, said: “We want this to act as a home away from the home for carers and those suffering from every stage of memory loss. It can be an uncertain time for many people and we want them to know we will be here for them.
“People love looking back at old memories and nostalgia can act as a way of helping them cope with their condition. This is here to make a real difference to people and having it part of the Primary Care Centre is vital for the community as people can come and go as they please.”
