What a disappointing start. I know that might sound rich after a 3-1 win in the opening World Cup game, one in which we scored all 4 goals! But I can’t help feeling somewhat deflated.
I watched the game with a group of friends, 3 of us Brazilian and 2 English and we were all of the same opinion.
It was a poor opening, with a penalty we shouldn’t have had and a wrongly disallowed Croatia goal. Perhaps 2-2 may have been a fairer score, but it’s still good to get off the mark with a win, even if it may have been a little unjust.
The Happies tell me that it’s typical opening night nerves, we’ll see. I’m hoping the nerves are gone for the next game and players like Neymar, Oscar, Fred and Dani Alves start performing. Training should be all done and dusted by now!
Still my biggest annoyance wasn’t the game itself last night – what has happened to football boots! It all used to be so clean and old school, you can’t beat a black football boot for real style. Yet I watched the game last night and there was every colour under the sun. Well, not every colour, just the most garish shades of green, pink, yellow and blue. Time they were all black boots again and the feet do the talking rather than shouting advertisements.
Overall, a happy result for my Brazil team, but plenty of work to do to bring the party to the World Cup!
