Happy Inspired by Ruth Filmer and Kardia’s Mission

We’ve recently had the privilege of collaborating with Ruth Filmer, founder of Kardia, an early intervention mental health course designed for teenagers. Ruth’s dedication to nurturing young minds through both faith and neuroscience is at the heart of her mission, and we are incredibly proud to have been part of shaping this important initiative.

When Ruth asked us to help develop Kardia’s brand identity we knew we were working on something truly meaningful. Kardia, derived from the Greek word for “heart,” beautifully captures Ruth’s vision: to offer teenagers a safe and supportive environment where they can overcome anxiety, depression, and mental health challenges. The strapline we crafted for Kardia, “Nurturing Teen Minds,” reflects this very ethos, underscoring the deep compassion that drives the program.

Our talented branding specialist, Louise Clarke, led the creative process of developing the brand identity and assets. Together, we designed an identity that reflects the organisation’s warmth and purpose, while also speaking to the teenagers who will benefit from the program.

Alongside the core brand identity, we crafted a range of assets, including a comprehensive workbook, a reflective journal, and a facilitator’s guide. These materials are engaging, interactive, and filled with bespoke illustrations, all designed to support the learning and growth of the young participants.

The workbook and journal we created are more than just resources—they are tools designed to help teenagers engage deeply with Kardia’s teachings, encouraging self-reflection and positive habits. Louise’s custom illustrations breathe life into these assets, making them approachable and relatable for the teens who use them. Additionally, we developed a facilitator’s guide, which ensures that future course leaders have all the tools they need to deliver high-quality support consistently.

The impact of Kardia is beautifully reflected in the testimonials from the young people who have participated in the program so far. Their words are both heartwarming and inspiring:

 “The ‘I Am Worth It’ session helped me feel better about my parents and made me realise that I am worth it.”

 “I learned to feel more positive about myself and form better habits.”

These testimonials speak of the profound effect Kardia is having on the lives of teenagers, and we are so humbled to have played a part in the branding process. The feedback from these young people reminds us that our work is not just about design—it’s about contributing to something that truly matters.

Ruth’s commitment to empowering teens is backed by her extensive experience and qualifications, including a BA (Hons) in Education and Counselling Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, and an MSc in Psychology. With over 20 years of experience working with young people, Ruth’s passion for promoting positive mental health is evident in every aspect of Kardia’s approach.

Our partnership with Ruth has been incredibly rewarding, and we are proud to have helped expand her vision and reach more communities. The facilitator guide we developed is already being used to train future course leaders, ensuring that Kardia’s message of care and compassion will continue to grow and flourish.
