Although launched around the Globe in 2011, ‘Pinterest’ is something that is becoming more and more well known in the UK. It is a brand new social media tool which allows users to share their life with others using a virtual pinboard.
Personally, I really love the idea.
I have to admit, I’ve been waiting for something new to come along and take the focus off the big boys Facebook and Twitter slightly and this for me is engaging enough to do that. It’s so fun and so easy to use and what I like about it is the fact that it is predominantly image focused which is probably why it appeals to me as a designer. Users also have the option to upload video as well, if they wish.
With ‘Pinterest’ you are able to upload onto your virtual pinboard anything you like or are interested in and let the world see who you are and what you’re about. No witty status updates or max 25 characters involved here, just simple and effective visuals defining your personality whether personal or professional.
The power of image is so great and the potential from a business perspective is really fantastic. You could be a chef, for example, and put together a pinboard of recipes to share with the world, or you could be an interior designer and put together a board of your own work and styles you love and want to share with evevryone. It really is endless.
Obviously links can be created with whatever you decide to add to your board, allowing quick navigation to any website you wish, increasing traffic all the time.
For me, I embrace simplicity and think this is the way forward with the world we live in today. Twitter has this mind set and has done for years, hence why it has been so successful.
I really think this could be something special and compete in a big way building up a strong user database in the years ahead and is something I definitely want us at Happy to get involved with.
So look out for a link to our Happy pinboard in the very near future and see for yourself all the things that make us happy but for now, why not check out ‘Pinterest’ yourself and see how it could benefit you.
Happy Pinning!
