Super Bowl, Super Ads

Watched by millions of people worldwide, the NFL Super Bowl XLVIII saw the Seattle Seahawks clinched an easy 43-8 victory against the Denver Broncos to become the 2014 NFL champions.

Nevertheless, this wasn’t the only title up for grabs. With around 100 million viewers glued to their television sets around the globe, and the ever presence of social media sharing every moment from the event, behemoth companies duked it out for this year’s commercial crown. With commercial airtime at the Super Bowl costing up to $4 million for 30 seconds, there is little room for error.Companies have to get their advertising right!

Here are some of the most popular and most shared commercials from the 2014 Super Bowl:

Budweiser – ‘Puppy Love’

The heart-string pulling commercial follows a golden retriever puppy that’s formed a strong friendship with one of the famous Budweiser Clydesdale Horses.
Since being released online on the 29th January, according to Viral Video Chart, Budweiser’s commercial is the most widely shared commercial from the 2014 Super Bowl and has accumulated over 36.8 million views on YouTube already using the hashtag ‘#BestBuds’.

Bud Light – ‘Up For Whatever’

Using the slogan “The Perfect Beer for Whatever Happens” and the hashtag ‘#UpForWhatever’ Bud Light’s four minute commercial followed an unsuspecting man called Ian who went through one crazy night with llamas, limos, partying, and ping pong against Arnold Schwarzenneger.

So far Bud Lights commercial has been watched over 9 million times.

Toyota – ‘Terry Crews and the Muppets’

The ‘Old Spice Guy’ and ex-NFL star Terry Crews is back with Toyota and the family favourite Muppets in what Toyota call “the roomiest Big Game Ad of all time!”.

So far the Toyota Highlander advert has accumulated over 6.5 million views on YouTube.

Go Pro – ‘Red Bull Stratos’

Go Pro’s commercial ‘Red Bull Stratos’ returns to the breathtakingly brilliant achievement of Felix Baumgartner to capture his jump from space on the HD Hero 2 camera.
The video with the description “Our Super Bowl XLVIII commercial documents one man’s extraordinary courage to jump from the edge of space—with GoPro cameras recording every record-breaking moment” has been watched over 6.4 million times on YouTube.

Jaguar – ‘Good to be Bad’

Have you ever wondered why in Hollywood movies, all the villains are played by Brits? Jaguar play on this cliché as Ben Kingsley, Tom Hiddleston and Mark Strong show us why in their ‘Rendezvous’ commercial.

To date, the commercial has accumulated over 8.2 million views with the hashtag ‘#ItsGoodToBeBad’.

Kia – ‘The Truth’

Finally, this is my personal favourite advert from the 2014 Super Bowl, Kia’s K900 titled ‘The Truth’. With over 2.7 million views, the commercial enlists the help of Morpheus from ‘The Matrix’ to let us all know what luxury really is.

Would you take the red key or the blue key?

Design & Brand Building

Marketing is bit like those huge, swirling flocks of starlings you see from time to time. Individually your brochure, email, ad, meme or gif may not change the world.

But when you join them together and ensure they’re all heading in the same direction, you have the power to stop people in their tracks.

We design communications that help build a consistent brand and convert more leads to sales.
