t is the same for every new job and when you join a team as family-orientated as Happy Creative you want to fit in. Be the cool cousin, not the awkward auntie.
I’ve been at Happy almost two months now as an account manager and, like the proverbial sponge above (although maybe not Bob), it’s been a time to soak up the knowledge and expertise across the business.
An apt time for my first review then, you might think. In this fast moving digital world we often forget about the basics, the humans of this planet actually influencing situations and activities, so why are we not talking a little bit about ourselves, instead of the latest technological updates?
After a decade specialising in events it was interesting to see if the fear of change or a fresh start was going to come out as the winner. In this game a team like the Happies played a crucial role. The diversity of characters and talents, individuals with different skills and different ideas builds a fascinating environment and yet we all unite at the end, understanding the importance of what Happy does, working towards the same Vision.
I read several books and articles about how to become an efficient and excellent account manager. But you need to work it out yourself; which main performance factors are going to be ones maximising my effectiveness? The key for me was to become a sponge, soak up as much information as possible from everyone I interact with during my day in order to give the old grey cells a good workout.
I keep looking at the title under my email signature and it is becoming clear that I will be adding a number of new strings to my bow at Happy HQ. Becoming a translator, understanding new languages, reading people and connecting with a variety of personalities.
If this is just the start I cannot wait for it to continue…
