Record-Breaking Big SleepOut
for Streetlife
Posted on: 7th June. 2023
We’re delighted to announce that Streetlife, a homeless charity in Blackpool, has raised a record-breaking £45,000 for young people following their Big SleepOut event, their most successful yet.
The charity, which has been operating in Blackpool for over 30 years, provides support, accommodation, and training for young people aged 16 to 25 who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. The charity's flagship event, the Big SleepOut, sees participants spend a night sleeping out in the resort’s St John’s Square to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
This year's event at the end of March was the most successful yet. Happy worked alongside Streetlife to create a comprehensive marketing campaign, including social media, email marketing, content creation, PR and the design of the event’s assets.
The annual event, the 8th of its kind, helped the charity raise over £45,000, a record-breaking amount for the Big SleepOut. The vital funds raised go towards the £85,000 annual operating costs to keep Blackpool’s only emergency night shelter open all year round, providing accommodation for homeless and vulnerable young people in the town.
Speaking about the success of the event, Streetlife's CEO, Jane Hugo, said: "We are thrilled with the amount of money raised this year. It’s thanks to our team, our sponsors Beaverbrooks the Jewellers, plus the support of the team at Happy Creative that we were able to raise this amount. We are thrilled. The funds raised will make a huge difference to the lives of young people in Blackpool, and we are so grateful for the support of all those who slept out, made donations and helped us raise awareness."
Sponsored by Beaverbrooks the Jewellers, the event was opened by Mayor Cllr Kathryn Benson, Beaverbrooks MD, Anna Blackburn and actress Jodie Prenger who cut the ribbon to mark the beginning of the sleep out. Over 100 people including Streetlife’s CEO Jane Hugo and Anna Blackburn gave up their beds for the night to join the Big SleepOut and show their support of the event.
Chief Happy Karen Lambert said “We’re delighted to see the dedication of Jane and her team rewarded in such a wonderful way. The work they do every day for homeless and vulnerable young people in Blackpool deserves to be recognised and celebrated. The success of this year's Big SleepOut demonstrates the power of effective marketing in raising awareness and support for important causes. Streetlife has been able to make a real transformation in the lives of young people in the area, and we are thrilled to be able to help make a difference in our community.”
