Time, a rare and precious commodity. Time is something we all value, perhaps even more so because there never seems to be enough of it. That’s why at Happy we are making the most of our time for the rest of 2013.
In trueness to our values, I’m delighted and extremely proud that the Happies will be giving our time over the coming months to help make Blackpool happier.
The Blackpool Fairness Commission, supported by Blackpool Council has just launched its 100 Acts of Kindness initiative. Their aim? To make Blackpool happier. What a fantastic initiative, one that is to be applauded. Giving back is so rewarding; and in my opinion to be able to help others is extremely satisfying. And I’m proud to say that we were the first to pledge an act of kindness.
We will be pledging and performing further acts of kindness both personally and professionally, individually and as a team. And we can’t wait to get going.
Random acts of kindness isn’t a new concept for us as an organisation. The act of giving goes alongside our desire to spread happiness. It’s something we believe in. We all get caught up in the general busyness of our working days so it’s great to take some time out and give back. It’s about positivity and action. Producing random acts of kindness for our clients, suppliers and friends has long been a key focus for us, as we believe it should for everyone.
There are many small things that we can do in our daily lives to make other’s lives easier. And so, in preparation for World Kindness Day on 13 November here’s some ways to spread happiness…
- Be generous with your compliments – Go out of your way to pay someone a compliment or say something kind. It will make them, and therefore, you happy.
- Make someone laugh. As Charlie Chaplin said … A day without laughter is a day wasted. There are both mental and physical benefits to laughing. It’s no coincidence that people who laugh more often are happier.
- Make a positive comment on a website or blog . If someone has helped or inspired you with an article or advice on line .. let them know. Everyone likes to feel appreciated.
- Smile at others – Smiling is good for you, and it can brighten someone’s day.
- Ask someone about their culture – we all have our own stories, there is so much we can learn from others, and what better way to show you care
- Write a poem for someone special – it will make them feel special and loved, and it can be relaxing for the writer too
- Give affection – a hug, a touch of the arm, a kiss on the cheek. All these show how much you care
- Be kind to yourself – So many of us dedicate our time to helping others. Treat yourself. Spend some time in the park. Find some time to read. Enjoy a coffee. Find a little “me time”.
We are massively looking forward to our acts of kindness and helping to make Blackpool happier.
