Friday morning… I look at the blog schedule – DAMIAN in big bold letters… just great…
Here we go again. Every time the same story, same question… What am I going to write about?
I wonder where should I look for inspiration? I know, Google. No, not again… so maybe Google? No. Perhaps Google this time? Yes, let’s ask Uncle Google for some inspiration.
All there is to do now is to find a topic; find one and you’re almost done.
At the end of the day I am a humble web developer so it is common sense to write about something I know a little about. What would it be? Hmmm, I know! Lets write about web development.
- CSS – gif on hover – boring
- Origin of digital marketing – done!
- Goals vs Profits – no way
As usual; I search for the topic for four hours, write an article in one hour.
I can do better this time; let’s try something different this time; let’s go DRAMA.
- “Shoot down the internet”
- “The economic fault of a collapsed internet”
- “What would happened if we turn the internet off?”
Come on, Damian. This will inspire millions for sure.
This isn’t going too well… I know…
“If you want to be the best, surround yourself with the best”. Nowhere near web development or digital marketing but I love It. Finally something inspiring, stimulating, educating and exciting.
A few articles later I am buzzing; great words, great ideas; feeling really refreshed and inspired.
The idea of being influenced by the surrounding environment, conditions, things people and occurrences really got me thinking. Here is one article I really enjoyed reading (http://liveyourlegend.net/rule-1-surround-yourself-with-passionate-people/ ) Surely this will make a good blog article.
Google search result page 2; Google search result page 5; trip to the kitchen… On page 11 I was in a different zone; I am going for some changes here. I will change everything…
And then BANG! Something has suddenly changed, this doesn’t feel like blog material any more. Either I am having really bad day or it is a pure inspiration.
On page 11 I thought, “let’s see how many search result pages is there.” Don’t ask, never done that before.
For the “If you want to be the best, surround yourself with the best“. I found found 54 pages. Ta-dah, this is a great topic for my blog!
Now you probably thinking what is wrong with this guy; either he suffers from some kind of hyper active brain syndrome or he had too many coffees this morning. Think about this, how often do you go to page 2 of Google search results? What about page 3, 6, 10 or higher?
I guess it is about the time to make my point. The influence of our surroundings got my attention and got me excited enough to keep reading, blog after blog; page after page.
What I realised was that there is a huge amount of content which rarely gets the chance to reach wider audience. There is tons of relevant, high quality, credible content, often miles better than the stuff we find on the first page of Google’s search results.
All we find on that first page is a bunch of commercial giants, plus, occasionally a handful of clever people who have the money, knowledge and resources for implementing the high-end SEO technologies in to their marketing campaigns. All you see on the very first page is an army of very clever people and technologies with only one goal in mind; let’s make him/her visit our website and give him what he wants…Often what’s hidden behind this links appears to be not relevant or credible at all; moreover it isn’t what you were looking for in first place.
All I am trying to say is that perhaps there is more; don’t just rely purely on the wealthy businesses, on the commerce, on what’s in front of you. Get inspired, look beyond the obvious and visible, experience different views, opinions and approaches. I don’t blame the reach for being reach or the clever for being clever; nor do I try to stand up for those who cannot reach the first pages of Google search results; I am simply trying to say is that there is more of what you want and more of what you need. The catch is… often these goodies are hidden behind that first page of Google’s search results.
Yes! Finally I got my blog… Job done… What a journey… Business, drama, professionalism, inspiration – chaos…
